Submit a Complaint about a Scale, Meter, or Label

Commercial scales, meters, or packaging labels must meet accuracy standards. Whether a scale is at a jeweler, the airport, supermarket, recycling center, or elsewhere, if it is used to determine a payment, it should have a Weights and Measures seal and be used where you can see it and see the indicator. Likewise for meters, which include taximeters and natural gas meters, among others. Packaged goods, whether wholesale or retail, are required to be labeled with a statement of quantity such as, net weight, count, volume, length, or other measurement of content. These statements of quantity are required to be accurate and truly reflect what's actually inside the packaging. If you have a concern about a scale, meter, or the stated quantity statement of a packaged good, please fill out the form below. All complaints are investigated.

  • (The date you used the scale, meter, or purchased the package)
    MM slash DD slash YYYY
  • Examples: The scale appears damaged, inaccurate, or wasn't used correctly; the meter isn't functioning correctly or was not visible; the package label gives an incorrect volume, weight, length, or count.
